BROKEN CLOCK...Active Listening

-Listen – to hear something with thoughtful attention: give consideration

-Active – One engaged in an action or activity.

(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Peace and Blessings,

Most of us have heard the phrase, “A broken clock is right twice a day.” When I first heard it and continue to hear it, along with how I use it, it’s in the context of being dismissive of the individual speaking at the time. In short, it’s a way we’ve been conditioned to give a discounted and/or marginalized compliment/acknowledgement that the person speaking has said something correct. Further conditioning has us letting said person know that generally we don’t value their knowledge…

It recently dawned on me that this phrase has a much deeper meaning…

This phrase means that we should be actively listening when engaged in conversation. When actively listening, the two (2) times that the clock is right (two correct things said by person), may be jewels that could change the trajectory of one’s life. These jewels could be the pieces missing that give one a firm understanding of their purpose in life. Lastly, these jewels could catapult one to their higher level of being…The only way to find out is to…Actively Listen…I’m just saying…Hotep.

Peace/Blessings,

After seeing the movie, The Woman King, I posted the following.

“Just finished seeing The Woman King…Empowering, Impactful & Great Imagery…During the movie, I turned to my 9-Year-old Princess & sad Agojie: & she responded…Woosuu!”

“Do not Bow Your Head.”

After posting the aforementioned post, I received pushback regarding the support of the movie…One called the title “Oxymoronic”…The summation of the pushback ranged from the writers of the movie not being a person of color, the writer’s sexual orientation, the writer being from the oppressor’s ethnic group, supporting Hollywood and white supremacy…

Those who know me, Know what happened next…

I politely responded…I systematically and methodically addressed the points that were presented by these individuals…As I read their points of contention prior to responding, I detected something…During my responses, I carefully worded my verbiage touching on aspects of the movie…When they responded, my detection was confirmed…

I then asked, “Did you see the movie?”

For the first one who called the title “Oxymoronic”…Which I addressed and was explained in the movie…I made the following comment, prior to asking the aforementioned question…

“I want us to have the same energy about the usage of black people calling themselves Nigga & Bitch as it relates to oxymoronic titles”

I received no response…

To the other individual…He responded that he did not see the movie and did not need to…He then continued with a lengthy response…

I responded with the following…

“Peace Beloved…smh…Out of courtesy, I’m letting you know that I stopped reading your post after you stated that you didn’t see the movie, which I suspected…Would a person be correct in making an on point assessment about you without knowing and/or experiencing you?...Their research may give them an idea, but without knowing you, they would be speaking out of…ignorance…Be well my Brotha…Hotep.”

That ended this thread…

When doing critical analysis, one should be mindful to be in harmony with the proper context…Thus the analysis is just…chatter…Also, one should be mindful to not be in “their feelings” when presenting said analysis, which could also render the analysis to just…chatter…

The two individuals that I highlighted had points that I understood and theoretically agreed…Their arguments crashed due to not being in the proper context…

The most affective analysis is one that is done utilizing aspects or examples from that which they are critiquing…To do that, one must 1st Do the Knowledge…

OTHERWISE, One will become the Intelligent Ignorant…Hotep.

GUNS AND/OR EDUCATION...THE CIVILIZED

 ic

Public
Peace/Blessings,
One of my mentors used to periodically say, "Everything is the way it should be..."
I was listening to a show on SiriusXM’s Urban View and the host, Joe Madison, quoted a statistic that the population in the US represents 4% of the World population, yet owns 46% of the firearms…
I feel I need to do a PSA at this point….
Guns are tools…When used responsibly, are beneficial to self, family, and community…
Here are some other statistics that I looked up…
-I confirmed Mr. Madison’s assertion through the Council of Foreign Relations – crf.org & worldometers.info
-US represents 44% of Global Suicides by firearms & the only Nation on the Earth where gun ownership outnumbers our population – cnn.com
EDUCATION
As of June 2022, the United States ranks 29 in education of the top 203 countries in the Worldworldtop20.org
We as Americans tout ourselves as the most Civilized nation on the Earth…
One definition for Civil is “Adequate in courtesy and politeness” …
In the book, the ISIS Papers, by Dr. Francis Cress Welsing, one of her chapters (essays) addresses guns from a subconscious level. Within this essay, she points out that guns were called ‘Equalizers’…The follow up question would be equalizer for what?...Something that is missing in one’s life…Also, she gives a description of a gun, as it relates to it’s design…When examining a handgun, the loop where one pulls the trigger, resembles a man’s testicle sack…The shaft represents a man’s penis…The firing of the gun, as the bullets are dislodged, represents the ejaculation during a sexual experience…One could postulate that guns, on one level, represent that which one lacks in their lives…This country is a very sexualized one where respect is given to one’s (a man’s) sexual prowess…To be lacking, is not acceptable…Thus, the Equalizer…Power…
Does anyone want to take a guess on which group owns the most guns?
To conclude…We rank 29th in the World in Education and 1st in the World in Gun ownership and usage…The Greatness of a Nation is not based upon the potential to commit violence, it is based upon the level of education of their people…
Everything is the way it should be…Hotep
