BROKEN CLOCK...Active Listening

-Listen – to hear something with thoughtful attention: give consideration

-Active – One engaged in an action or activity.

(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Peace and Blessings,

Most of us have heard the phrase, “A broken clock is right twice a day.” When I first heard it and continue to hear it, along with how I use it, it’s in the context of being dismissive of the individual speaking at the time. In short, it’s a way we’ve been conditioned to give a discounted and/or marginalized compliment/acknowledgement that the person speaking has said something correct. Further conditioning has us letting said person know that generally we don’t value their knowledge…

It recently dawned on me that this phrase has a much deeper meaning…

This phrase means that we should be actively listening when engaged in conversation. When actively listening, the two (2) times that the clock is right (two correct things said by person), may be jewels that could change the trajectory of one’s life. These jewels could be the pieces missing that give one a firm understanding of their purpose in life. Lastly, these jewels could catapult one to their higher level of being…The only way to find out is to…Actively Listen…I’m just saying…Hotep.
